Don't you miss Liz George?

Don't get me wrong. I like Andrea Sanke. Becky Anderson is decent, and Monita Rajpal is fine. Nothing against Alison Bell, or Fionnuala Sweeney, they're both okay. But, as someone who takes Hala's seat with Richard Quest on the CNN Today shift in London, don't you just miss Liz George?

Quick of wit and incredibly bubbly even at 5AM, Liz was an excellent counterbalance to Richard. (Not as good as Hala is, but for different reasons.)

Who can forget Liz at the London SE bemoaning David Beckham's transfer, somehow working into her report an analysis on the stocks that would benefit depending on who got to sign David Beckham? (by the way, I'm loving this entry, simply because I get to talk about Hala, Liz, AND David Beckham.)

Hala: We'll go back to Liz, a little later. When she's feeling better.

Or Liz with Becky Anderson at the desk, when David Beckham's transfer was confirmed? Both women were clearly in despair at the thought of losing David Beckham to a team outside of Manchester United.

Or Liz discussing how the inflation rate has affected possible expenses --- if one were to compare the previous year's prices to the then-current year's prices --- when completing the list of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Now Liz is hosting MainSail, demonstrating her know-how in the field of sailing. No longer a reporter or correspondent (I think), now Liz George is actually getting tan. Oh, well.

P.S. Now that the usual suspects at the CNN Center are back, does this mean Hala will soon be returning to London? I'm getting used to watching her during weekends, as the build up to The Daily Show: Global Edition, that I actually now have no idea how I feel about her return to London.

Sunday Morning

last sunday woke up at 6am local time, groggily switched on the TV and lo and behold. Hala Gorani telling me of the latest international headlines. fought the instinct to go back to sleep and stayed up to watch hala end the hour's worth of World News. sleep came quickly the minute i realized colleen mcedwards was taking over the newsdesk.

gloating over starting the day with hala, i was already resigned to having started my sunday with hala. then night fell, and at 9pm Hala was back. Glorious way to start and end Sunday. this is the good thing about hala doing the news from the CNN Center (Atlanta, but they never seem to say it out loud): I get to see her do the news. with me working during the daytime, it would be near-impossible to do so if she were still in london doing CNN Today.

but i still miss her doing the 3-hour shift with Richard Quest. they are unmatched as a duo.

Hala!!!

Got home at around 8 pm yesterday and who should be hosting World News but Hala. A terrific way to end one's day. Thursday nights are always a drag in the land of local television, so Hala telling me about the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, while a bit depressing, still made for good TV.

I just wonder if her move to the CNN Center (Atlanta) is temporary or permanent. I hope it's temporary, because being in Atlanta will minimize her interaction with Richard Quest, and those two co-hosting is one fun watch.
Sure, being at the CNN Center "ups" her exposure, but come on. The broadcasts from the CNN Center tend to be so boring.
Put her back in London!!!

So far the best fansite for Hala I've seen: www.halafan.bravehost.com check it out.

looking for hala...who?

So I'm starting a blog of what I do best... watch TV. Dedicated to the CNN International anchor Hala Gorani, this is me venting about where in the world she could be at any given time.

Usually an anchor of London programs such as CNN Today and Business International, she is also the presenter of the monthly series Inside the Middle East. Just recently she was in Atlanta for whatever reason.

Here will be a collection of viewership, my thoughts and opinions, not only of Hala but of the rest of the goings-on on the on-air CNNi programs.

yay for me.
